Why Being Great at What You Do Doesn't Guarantee More Business

Doing fantastic work and being amazing at what you do does not necessarily mean you are going to get more business. Let's say you have goals to double or quadruple your business. If you are only relying on word of mouth and referrals, and your other advertising sources are going stale or declining, how do you expect to achieve that growth?

The number one thing you need to do is have a strategy session where you find different angles of your product in different markets and different ways to sell the same thing. You can actually do that.

You just have to strategize, look into the market, look into your audiences, and see what they actually want. Chances are you could be selling your product in a very straightforward manner that is missing the mark.

I do want to put a caveat to this. Sales and marketing for a business is the hardest thing to do. Getting a customer to use your services is the hardest thing to do. But if you crack that, even after spending upwards of fifty thousand or sixty thousand dollars, where you can find a way to predictably get customers, it is always well worth it.

Most business owners literally try something for two weeks or thirty days, see no return on investment, and they just quit. Imagine if you did that with every single thing you did in your life. How would your results be? It just does not work if you only give it a temporary effort. You need to consistently try, like how you consistently date people until you find your significant other.

You have to get good at marketing and, more importantly, sales for this to be extremely beneficial for you. You need to sit down with your marketing team on a bi-weekly basis and understand what is going on.

The customers that we have who speak with us the most frequently, at least on a minimum bi-weekly basis, do the best because we have data coming from them. We send out new data on a bi-weekly basis. Doing strategy sessions does not necessarily have to take hours. This could literally be fifteen to thirty minutes. It is very important that you do this.
