Why AI should expand your team, not replace them

Everyone is talking about how AI is going to replace employees. We have seen companies like Stripe publicly announce they are cutting staff because of AI implementation. And now every business owner with a ChatGPT subscription thinks they should fire half their team and let the robots handle it. That is incredibly small thinking.

The biggest lesson I took from the mastermind on this topic was simple: AI should not be used to remove your team. It should be used to open up the potential capacity your team can handle. Instead of hiring a tenth person for a department, you ask yourself how you can remove friction and automate the repetitive day-to-day operations so that the nine people you already have can now take on a much larger workload.

When you do that, something incredible happens. Your margins open up to a level you didn't know was possible. You are not paying more in salaries. You are not adding more management overhead. You are just getting more output from the same team because you removed the bottlenecks that were slowing them down.

The other side of this is that founders are spending hours a day "vibe coding" with AI tools, building little internal automations, and convincing themselves they are being productive. But if you actually break it down and calculate how many hours you spent building that tool versus what your hourly rate is as a founder, you would realize you were better off hiring a developer for $3,000 a month and spending your time on the things that actually move the needle. Sales. Marketing. Operations. Client fulfillment. The stuff that directly drives revenue.
