The Only Camera Setup You’ll Ever Need (Beginner to Advanced)

If you’re just starting to record content, here’s what I recommend, broken into two categories: beginner and advanced.

I’ll also throw in a bonus tip at the end.

Beginner Setup: Start Simple

If you’re new to content creation, use your iPhone.

Don’t use your laptop.
Don’t use a webcam.

Here’s why: webcams are not made for recording content.
They’re made for meetings and casual streaming.
Even if the box says “4K,” it’s not the same as a professional camera or even your iPhone’s 4K.

The sensor size in webcams is too small. It barely picks up light, so your video will always look grainy.

So start with your iPhone.

  • Sit near sunlight or use a ring light.

  • Invest in one thing only: a good mic.

Skip the $40 cheap Amazon mics.

Get the DJI Mic Mini (around $79–$200). It’ll last you years, and your audio quality will instantly sound professional.

The goal at this stage isn’t perfection.
It’s consistency.

Record at least 30–45 pieces of content (ideally 60–90).

Get used to the process before spending money on fancy gear.
Once you’re in the groove and posting consistently, you can upgrade.

Here’s what I recommend:

Camera:

  • Sony ZV-E10 , around $899 and includes a lens.

  • Or get a separate 35mm or 50mm lens for better background depth and a cleaner look.

Teleprompter:

  • Elgato Teleprompter , comes with its own screen, so you don’t need to attach an iPad.

  • Connect it to your computer and place your camera behind it.

  • You can load your scripts and read while looking directly into the camera.

This setup makes your videos look professional and lets you stay confident and focused.

Get a sturdy tripod.

Not the $10–$15 kind that breaks every month.

A solid tripod will last you forever and keep your footage stable.

When new clients join us, we start with their iPhone setup and guide them through everything , lighting, audio, framing, even the teleprompter software (which is already built into the platform we use).

Once they’re comfortable and ready to upgrade, we send them the exact links and help set up their advanced camera settings remotely.

So the setup is seamless, the videos look great, and the process stays easy.

You don’t need expensive equipment to start.

You just need the right setup and consistency.

Start simple, get confident, then upgrade.

If you follow this process, you’ll have a content setup that looks professional, sounds great, and is built to last.

Bonus:

If you want an on the go camera, get the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. it has a built in stablizer, you can vlog with it, use it as a webcam, and recording device, quite literally everything. It better than an iPhone but not a dedicated camera such as the sony ZV-E10
