The 6-Part VSL Script That Converts Cold Traffic
Your landing page is where sales are made or lost. And the most critical element on that page is your Video Sales Letter (VSL). Most VSLs fail because they either feel like a sleazy, high-pressure infomercial or a boring, academic lecture. A high-converting VSL isn’t about slick production; it’s about a deep understanding of sales psychology, structured into a simple, six-part narrative.
First, the Hook. You have less than three seconds to earn the next thirty. Don’t waste it with “Hi, my name is…” Start with a bold, pattern-interrupting claim or a question that hits their biggest pain point right between the eyes. Bad: “In this video, I’ll show you how to get more leads.” Good: “Your sales team is complaining about lead quality, but what if I told you the leads were never the problem?”
Second, the Problem. Before you can sell them a solution, you have to make them feel seen. Describe their problem better than they could describe it themselves. Use their language. Show them you live in their world. This builds the initial foundation of trust.
Third, Agitate the Pain. This is where most people go wrong. They identify the problem but don’t make the viewer feel the consequences. It’s not enough to say “you’re not getting enough leads.” You have to paint a picture of what that means. “You’re working 60-hour weeks, stressed about making payroll, and watching your competitors steal market share every single day.” Make the pain tangible.
Fourth, Introduce the Solution. Now that they’re feeling the pain, you introduce the new opportunity. The vehicle for their transformation. This isn’t about your product features; it’s about the new reality you can create for them. A world with a full calendar of qualified sales calls.
