The 3-strike rule for killing bad ideas
Most business owners get way too emotionally attached to their content ideas. They think a topic is brilliant because it matters to them personally, so they keep posting about it, even when the market is clearly telling them they don't care. You need a system to kill bad ideas fast, because every bad video you post is a wasted opportunity to test something that might actually work.
Internally, we use a three-strike rule. If we test a specific video format or topic and it underperforms the account's baseline three times in a row, we kill it. We don't tweak it. We don't try to save it with a better hook. We don't tell ourselves "maybe the algorithm just didn't push it." We just move on.
The market is the only judge that matters. If they scroll past it three times, they are telling you it is boring. They are telling you they don't care. Don't take it personally. Don't let your ego convince you that the audience is wrong. Just look at the data, accept the verdict, and pivot to a format that actually holds attention.
The flip side of this is equally important. When something works, when a video hits 3x to 5x your baseline, you don't just celebrate and move on. You replicate it. You take that winning format and change one variable. Maybe you change the topic but keep the format. Maybe you change the hook but keep the structure. You squeeze every drop of value out of a winner before you move on to testing something new. Kill the losers fast. Ride the winners hard.
