Signs that you’re business should not create content/Instagram ads
I spoke to a business owner last week who wanted to start creating content. He saw his competitors doing it, understood that it mattered, and wanted to stay competitive.
He was a local service business making over 400,000 dollars a year. Stable. Consistent. Growing slowly, a few percent each month. All from referrals and word of mouth.
And I told him to stop thinking about content and meta ads altogether.
Here is why.
Referrals and word of mouth work for businesses like his. They grow slow, but they grow.
And he had just started Google Ads the day before reaching out to us. That alone will move the needle for a local service business way faster than content ever will.
Content and Instagram ads require time, attention, and long-term commitment. If someone is only half locked in, they will quit too early, blame the wrong thing, and waste money.
So I told him exactly this:
“Maximize Google first. Get every ounce out of it. Once you plateau, then think about content. Until then, what you are doing is fine.”
Google will get him more customers in the next few months. Content will matter later, but not today.
If he wants to post here and there in the meantime, great. But if he wants to do it at scale, he needs to be mentally and operationally ready. Content and ads are extremely rewarding, but only if you are fully prepared for the workload that comes with them.
If you are in the same boat as this gentleman, do the same. Dial in Google. Max out the channel. Then expand.
Trying to do everything at once only leads to being overwhelmed, inconsistent, and broke. Unless you have the resources.
