Should your video start with your name or their problem?
You want a potential customer to know you're qualified to help. But before you explain your background, give them a reason your advice matters to them. Otherwise, you're asking for attention.
Your name isn't the problem. The order might be. A stranger watching between appointments is deciding whether this concerns them, not whether you delivered a proper introduction. They haven't booked a meeting with you yet.
For example, imagine you run a repair business. An introduction-first opening might be: "Hi, I'm the owner, and I've been repairing equipment for twenty years. Today I want to talk about whether you should repair or replace it."
Try moving the customer's decision first: "Before you replace a machine that keeps breaking down, check whether you're paying to fix the same fault again." Now the viewer knows which problem you're about to help them think through.
Then bring in the relevant experience: "In twenty years of repair work, I've learned to check the fault history before recommending another repair." The credential now supports the advice. It isn't just a badge you're hoping somebody admires.
That's the distinction I explain when talking through video openings. Your expertise belongs in the message. It just doesn't always need to be the first thing out of your mouth.
An introduction can still make sense when people already know you, or when your role is essential context. I'm not asking you to hide your qualifications. Nobody needs a mysterious expert in a polo shirt.
Before recording, read the opening without your name, title or business name. Can the right customer tell why they should listen? Then check that the explanation actually answers the concern you raised, rather than drifting into your biography.
Keep the name. Keep the experience. Put them where they help the customer judge your answer. They came with a decision to make, not a vacancy for someone to introduce themselves.
