If you blank out in front of the camera, you need to use the interview style method

I see this all the time - business owners set up their camera, stare directly into the lens, and completely blank out. Everything they wanted to say just vanishes. It's a common issue, but here's why it happens:

  • You're trying to remember a script

  • The camera feels intimidating

  • You're too focused on being "perfect"

  • You're thinking about how you look

The Interview Style Method

Here's what I tell people who aren't comfortable in front of camera, stop looking at it. Seriously. Instead of staring at the lens, look at the wall or window. You've probably seen those podcast style reels where it seems like they're talking to another person? Here's the thing, most of them aren't. They're using this exact method.

How To Do It Right

  1. Set up your camera to the side

  2. Look at a fixed point (wall, window, anything but the camera)

  3. Talk like you're having a conversation with someone

  4. Use natural hand movements and gestures

The magic of this method is that it feels more natural. You're not performing - you're just having a conversation.

Make It Even Easier

Want to know a pro tip? Your first 20-30 videos are just practice. Nobody cares about them, and that's good. Use them as trial videos to get comfortable and improve. After your 30th video, you'll be a completely different creator.

We make this even easier for our clients by actually being their present with them and asking them questions live, whether in person or virtual, it makes everything much faster and having direction live always improves the overall delivery

Remember This

You don't need to be perfect, you just need to be authentic. Your audience would rather see real, valuable content than perfectly polished videos that say nothing.
