Do not use Hey-Gen.
I see it everywhere. Business owners trying to use AI avatars to create courses. To make social media content. To teach their audience. They think it saves time. They think it looks professional.
It doesn't. It kills your credibility. And all of those profiles sit under 500 followers for a reason.
Content is about personalization. People want to watch other human beings. Not robots. Not AI avatars that speak in a robotic manner.
When someone knows it's an AI teaching them, it loses credibility immediately. "Oh, he didn't put work into this. AI made it." "He probably used some AI prompts to make these."
Your content gets downplayed. Your authority disappears.
The biggest critique these platforms get is that "they aren't human enough." That's the point. That's exactly why it matters.
When you use Heygen or Synthesia to create full videos, you're telling your audience you didn't care enough to show up. You're saying your time is more valuable than their attention. You're saying you'd rather automate connection than build it.
That's not how you build trust. That's how you lose it.
People can tell. They always can. And when they can tell, they leave.
There's one exception. Internal training. If your team has to watch a set amount of videos for their position, AI avatars might work. They already work for you. They're required to watch. The content is functional, not relational.
But even then, you're better off recording it yourself. Your team wants to hear from you. Not a robot version of you.
Now, this is purely about making full videos using AI avatars. There are plenty of scenarios where you can still use AI in the creation process. Generating custom visuals and images to get your point across with more precision compared to stock images on the internet. Writing scripts faster. Editing faster. Researching faster.
AI is a tool. Not a replacement. Use it to improve your work. Not to replace your presence.
If you're using AI avatars to avoid being on camera, you're solving the wrong problem. The problem isn't that recording takes time. The problem is you're not comfortable on camera yet. Fix that. Don't hide behind an avatar.
If you're using AI avatars to scale content, you're scaling the wrong thing. You're scaling volume. Not connection. Not trust. Not authority. And volume without connection is just noise.
Show up. Record yourself. Be human. Your audience doesn't need perfect lighting or flawless delivery. They need authenticity. They need to see you. Hear you. Trust you.
AI can help you create faster. It can help you edit faster. It can help you research faster. But it can't replace you.
And the second you try to replace yourself, you lose what made your content valuable in the first place.
You.
