Do not hiring a marketing company if you're at this stage
"I'm an expert in my field. I just need marketing to get coaching clients."
I hear this weekly from successful business owners looking to start a coaching business "on the side."
Here's the thing. Your expertise is only 10% of what makes a coaching business successful.
Let me explain why hiring a marketing company too early is the fastest way to waste $10,000:
THE COACHING BUSINESS MYTH: • I'm good at what I do • People need my expertise • I'll hire marketing to find clients • I'll teach them what I know • Result: Easy money on the side
THE COACHING BUSINESS REALITY: • Nobody knows who you are • Nobody trusts you yet • Cold traffic won't convert to high-ticket offers • You need a complete sales system • Result: Expensive marketing with zero clients
Here's what most experts miss. Coaching isn't just another service, it's a trust-based business with a completely different buying psychology.
Before someone pays you $2,000, $5,000, or $10,000 for coaching, they need to:
KNOW YOU • Consume your content repeatedly • Understand your philosophy and approach • See evidence of your expertise in action
TRUST YOU • See social proof from others • Experience your teaching style • Believe you can solve their specific problem
VALUE YOUR SOLUTION • Understand why your approach is different • Believe the investment will pay off • Feel the pain of not solving their problem
You can't shortcut this process with ads alone.
Even with the perfect funnel and the perfect offer, you still need a sales process. Someone (probably you at first) needs to get on calls with prospects and close them.
This is why I tell every potential coaching client the same thing:
Make your first 5-10 sales yourself before hiring any marketing help.
Those first sales will: • Validate your offer • Refine your messaging • Build testimonials • Test your delivery • Prove people will pay
Only AFTER you've made those initial sales should you consider hiring marketing help to scale what's already working.
The businesses that succeed in coaching aren't the ones with the biggest marketing budgets, they're the ones who build trust first and scale second.
Don't try to outsource what you haven't mastered yourself.
Because in the coaching world, marketing amplifies trust, it doesn't create it.
