Ask these seven questions before hiring a content agency

Most business owners hire a content agency by looking at three things: the portfolio, the price, and whatever result was promised on the sales call.

That is not enough.

A nice sales presentation tells you the agency knows how to sell. It does not tell you whether your content will show up on time, sound like you, or turn into another job for your team.

Before you hire anyone, ask these seven questions.

Who owns each part of the process? You should know who handles strategy, scripts, filming, editing, approvals, publishing, and performance. “Our team takes care of it” is not a real answer.

How much time do you need from me every month? If the agency needs you writing topics, reviewing every caption, and chasing uploads, it is not very done for you.

Where do the topics come from? Listen for sales calls, customer objections, industry research, current performance, and real planning. If they just send you a blank form asking for ideas, you are still doing the hard part.

How will you make the content sound like me? Good editing cannot rescue a script you would never actually say.

What happens after filming? A lot of agencies are really production companies. They hand over videos and leave publishing, testing, comments, and improvement to you.

What happens when something underperforms? The answer should involve reviewing data and changing the next batch, not blaming the algorithm for three months.

Finally, what exactly do I own? You should understand who owns the videos, scripts, accounts, and raw material if the relationship ends.

I promise you, these answers will tell you more than a highlight reel ever will.

Do not hire the agency that gives you the most exciting pitch. Hire the one that can explain exactly how your expertise becomes published content without your calendar getting destroyed.
