6 Formats of Content I Want You to Try

If you want to stay relevant on social media, you have to evolve. The classic talking head video is still a powerful tool, but it’s no longer enough to capture and hold attention in a crowded feed. Your audience craves variety. They want to be engaged in different ways. Here are six proven formats we’re implementing for our clients to break through the noise, and you should be trying them too.

First, the Ranking Video. This is a simple, authoritative format where you rank methodologies, tools, or concepts within your field of expertise. If you’re a doctor, you could rank types of procedures or insurance plans. If you’re a financial advisor, you could rank investment strategies. You can use a simple 1-5 scale, with 1 being the best. It’s a quick, digestible way to demonstrate your knowledge and create opinionated content that sparks conversation.

Second, the Clone Video. This is a comparison format that’s great for showing contrast and building authority. You set your camera up on a tripod and film yourself on one side of the screen discussing Point A, then on the other side discussing Point B. A classic example is “Beginner vs. Expert.” A beginner lawyer might talk about filing paperwork, while the expert lawyer talks about courtroom strategy. It visually represents the transformation you provide.

Third, the Tier List. This is a variation of the ranking video, but it uses the S/A/B/C/D/F tier format popularized by gaming culture. It’s a more visual and culturally relevant way to rank items. A director or someone off-camera can throw out concepts, tools, or industry buzzwords, and you quickly rank them into tiers. It’s fast-paced, engaging, and highly shareable.

Fourth, the “Important vs. Not Important” format. This is a rapid-fire format designed for high engagement. The person behind the camera throws out a series of concepts, and you simply state “important” or “not important.” For example, a health specialist might hear “eating breakfast” and say “important,” then hear “doing push-ups every day” and say “not important.” You can add a single sentence of explanation for the more controversial ones, but the power is in the speed and conviction.

Fifth, Reaction Videos. This is one of the most effective ways to leverage existing trends. Find a video in your niche that has already gone viral, and simply film your reaction to it. Add your expert commentary, correct misinformation, or provide a deeper level of analysis. You’re essentially borrowing the viral equity of the original video and drafting off its success.

Finally, the classic Talking Head video. It’s still the foundation. A well-structured script with a killer hook, a high-value educational segment, and a clear call to action will always be effective. The key is to not rely on it as your only format. Mix it in with these other five, and you’ll create a dynamic, unpredictable, and highly engaging content feed.
